Scenery: Arcane Ruins and a start on the Garden of Morr

These past weeks I took my resolutions to heart and painted more scenery pieces: the Arcane Ruins I had started and the statue from the Garden of Morr kit. Other than that, I also painted two more Highelves and a few more bits.

First up, here are the Arcane Ruins I showed in my last post. It was great fun to put the different colours onto the stone but the piece really came to life with the different flocks.

Since the Arcane Ruins were so much fun and a great success, I also painted this Statue from the Garden of Morr / Sigmarite Mausoleum kit. I added a base and some more flagstones made from plastic card to blend it in some more with the other terrain pieces. I also scraped of the sculpted on foliage and flowers. They are neat details but they don't fit the other flocks I put on.
Arcanite Markers

Another small project were these Crystalfield bases made by Tabletop Art. I had them in mind to use as objective markers for ArcWorlde when I read the rulebook. Oftentimes in this narrative system you will find yourself fighting over scraps of Arcanite, a magical crystal and these bases fit the bill perfectly.

And here are two more High Elves. Korhil Lionmane, Captain of the White Lions and a fitting Noble from Chrace armed with and axe, a shield and a lion pelt. These white lion pelts troubled me - at first I tried to shade them with Seraphim Sepia but that made them look to dirty even when highlighted. Now they simply use a mix of Steel Legion Drab and Screaming Skull without any washes. And one more thing might be the Noble's shield - I want to put on some heraldry or an elven rune but for now I was not able to decide on any device.

With the Arcane Ruins and the Statue, I almost made good on one of my New Years resolutions. I prepared the first of the Garden of Morr mausoleums, once again adding a base. And to the left here stands another ArcWorlde miniature: the Unithorn, a bigger summoned monster of the Wild Elves line.

Goblintown - Progress with the gaming board

This week(end) I continued building and paiting my new Goblintown board. Other than that, I also finished the crates I first showed in april!

As I wrote in the opening sentences, I did make progress with the Goblintown. For the staps fixing the throne to the rock, I used elastic bands and strengthend them with superglue. After they set I smoothed out the transitions with some greenstuff (more on that later!). Once I finished the building part of all the pieces, I started the painting - right now the rockfaces are mostly black, I only put down some brown streaks. As you can see, the ground is a splotchy brown tone. I quite enjoy the variety but I think it needs some darker tones.
Other than the moveable pieces, I also decided to build a baseboard for the pieces. For storage purposes I'll be using two 2'x4' boards and the picture you see above is one of them. It's got a thin layer of  plaster and the same brown treatment as the moveable

And here are the crates I originally bought for the game Schicksalspfade, but now they are going to populate the Goblintown. After a base of Steel Legion Drab and a light drybrush, I only used differently coloured washes to achive some variation with the wood.

And lastly here's a WIP of a conventional miniature: I chopped up a Narzug and stuck him on a Fellwarg. After some filling and resculpting fur with greenstuf, I already started blocking in the colours and putting on a wash.

There's progress with the Iron Hills and even more DnD

This week was not as productive as the last few, but I did make some progress with the Iron Hills Goat Riders.

Firstly I'm showing the first completet Iron Hills Goat Rider. I have to say I love these miniatures! Everything is clearly defined and paints up really nicely. I only struggled with the horns because they took so many layers of paint from so many angles to get them where I was happy with them. I'm pleased how he came out overall and look forward to having six painted up and on the table.

Dungeons and Dragons Pixies MIniatures

Next up are two more of the Woodelf Sprites that are on my desk right now. As before, they will be used as AoS markers and will double as Pixies for DnD.

And here are the remaining five Goat Riders that I'm working on at the moment. The basecoats and washes are down, so I hope to finish them quickly. Not only because I need them painted on the coming sunday, but also to finish this part of the army. What's still missing then are the dismounts and the Warrior with the banner. Right now I don't think I'll be adding to the army but that might change as more options for the Warriors and more heroes are released.

Crates

The last pictures show the second half of the Dungeons and Dragons order for this month. The pieces that were originally produced for the game Schicksalspfade will mostly get used for DnD but I might give the game a try since I do have two little gangs. I never got around to reading the rules and thus never played the game. As you can see I already started painting the doors - every time a layer of paint was drying on the Goats, I quickly blocked in some colours here.

Pict 143: Wizkids Unpainted

And lastly, here are some more DnD miniatures. I was really intrigued by the rather new Wizkids Unpainted range and decided to give them a try. Having recieved the miniatures, I do have to say the sculpts are good but there are very nasty moldlines, that will have to be removed and some gaps that will have to be filled before I can actually start to paint. The coat of Vallejo primer looks like a good base to work from and I'll probably wont prime over that. I still wait on some GW bases for the Displacer Beasts and the Phase Spiders. But I do look forward to start painting some more minions.
