Théoden's Army taking to the fields of the Pelennor once more

This week I'm off to a large Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game tournament. And because I still needed some more Rohirrim, I finished the seven Riders I had started a few weeks back. I also finished the fourth Ghazi and then went on to some more miniatures that I might want to use at the tournament

These Riders still had to get their washes done and then were missing the highlights and detailing. The washes went on fast enough and I managed to blast through the highlights by batchpainting them one colour at a time. The first pictures here show the armies I took to the tournament: Théoden, Éomer, Dernhelm and Déorwine with a bunch of riders on the good side and Bolg, Yazneg, Fimul and Narzug with even more Hunter Orcs.
I also magnetised all of the bases with neodymium magnets so that I was able to easily transport them to the tournament and in between games.

This last Ghazi was pretty much done last week, but I didn't have it in me to finish her in time for the post. On monday I only had to do the bright armour and the black parts as well as the base and the glow. Finally I also marked the arc where the miniature is looking. Usually I like my bases to be a solid colour but for gaming purposes this makes things a lot easier. Thankfully all of that went pretty fast so that I could focus on the Rorhirrim the rest of the week.

Speaking of Rohan, here is an other Éowyn I painted up quickly. I wanted to play Dernhelm but the model was not released in time to paint up for this weekend. Thankfully the organiseres were kind enough to allow me to use the normal Éowyn on horseback as Dernhelm but I then wanted to have the correct model on foot. This one is from the 'Fate of the Witch-king' Diorama and fit the bill perfectly.

Lastly here is a WIP of a Rohan Royal Guard on foot. I wanted to finish this one because I played Déorwine, Chief of the King's Knights - his model is also not yet released. I used a converted Háma on horseback as the mounted version but that wouldn't do for the one on foot. Obviously he is missing the highlights at the time of writing but I hope to have him finished in time.

My Haqqislam Army and a few Characters from Middle-earth

These past weeks I finished my Haqqislam Army (fullfilling my first new year's resolution) as well as some more Characters from Middle-earth.

Fist up is a picture of all the models I have for my Haqqislam right now. I only had the three Ghulams finished last week and those three alone didn't seem the warrant a blogpost. Since then I also got around to the Najjarun Engineer with his little Nasmat Remote, a Djanbazan Sniper and a Jannisary and Asawira for some more heavy hitting power.

With all of those finished, I fullfillied the first of my new year's resolutions - but I'm pretty sure this was only wave one for the Haqqislam since I'm still part of an escalation league and Corvus Belli really produces some amazing miniatures.

And here are the heroes from Middle-earth. I was inspired to complete the old Three Hunters set with Legolas and Gimli, the both of them mounted on Arod as well as the Merry and Pippin on the run from Grishnak when I read the Two Towers in the past weeks. With my Haqqislam hype I neglected Middle-eath a bit as far as painting goes and I am now onto the Return of the King with my reading. Luckily Éowyn also has some scenes here, so that I had a good reason to paint this version of her (I doubt I'll ever play with this miniature since the armour is pretty much a must).

Arise, arise Riders of Théoden!

Putting the Osgiliath scenery on hold for a week, I painted up some Riders of Rohan as well as Théoden and Éomer in their Pelennor garb.

With the new rules Théoden seems to be a must-take in any Rohan army so that I had to paint this mounted version of the King of Rohan. Since the Éomer, Knight of the Pelennor miniature is rather similar, I painted them in tandem. I really like the two sculpts - the only complaint I have is that Éomer does not have his sword Gúthwinë with the signature curved horseheads as the crossguard. Fortunately I had a spare and quickly replaced it.

And here are a few more warriors - I started two of the normal riders and the banner bearer back in 2015 so that I only had to finish up the eyes and the highlights. It went rather quickly considering I had put it off for over three years...

Rohan Army (555 points)

After painting these riders, I dusted off my Rohan army to patch them up a bit and give them all good coat of matte varnish. I used a contigent of normal Riders and Royal Guard led by the newly painted Théoden, Éomer as well as Éowyn as my army for a tournament on Saturday.

Weta Sideshow Collectibles Legolas Bust

The Riders perfomed very well - even though I lost the first battle (against Morannon Orcs and the Witchking - points for style!), I absolutely destroyed my second opponent (Morannon Orcs again with Gorbag, Shagrat and a Great Beast of Gororoth) and managed to eek out a small vicotry against the last (he played Isengard with some Berserkers, Lurtz and Vraskû with a contingent of crossbows). With that I made second place which is nice; but more importantely, I was voted the fairest player and awarded with this very nice Legolas bust by Weta. All in all an amazing day!
